Welcome to Desiring Wellness

Working Together

All of us struggle, and sometimes daily, to manage difficult emotions in ways that are healthy to ourselves and others. (I’ve been there and some days I’m still there…the struggle is real …) It’s my goal to offer a space, (through Desiring Wellness) for us to work through challenging emotions together. I believe by engaging in wellness practices and applying principles of faith we can be transformed and learn to live in a balanced place.

What We’re About

Desiring Wellness is grounded in the individual internal desire to be made whole. In the biblical passage recorded in John 5:1-8, Jesus encounters a man who had been ill for many years. Before proceeding to heal the man, Jesus asked him, “Do you want to get well?” Close examination of this question revealed Jesus wanted the man to assess his commitment to the process of getting well and to doing whatever necessary to change his current circumstances. An answer in the affirmative would signify a desire for wellness and compel one to seek and engage in wellness practices. Supporting individuals to engage in wellness practices is the heart of services provided by this ministry. Dr. Allen is motivated to this work by her own experiences and struggles with overcoming trauma. However, she also brings professional education and expertise as a licensed clinical social worker trained in mental and behavioral health. Dr. Allen has more than 10 years of experience in helping both children and adults to cope with a variety of emotional challenges. She is also a college professor, and has worked to train and develop students in the social work profession over the past decade. Dr. Allen has a passion for helping the body of Christ to be emotionally whole and thereby maintaining spiritual health, including connectedness to God and Community. She has a holistic perspective of wellness that includes the need to address the body, mind, and soul. She believes that by engaging in emotional wellness practices we support our overall wellbeing and ability to more fully live out our purpose and destiny.
